Not only will the mold’s spores lower your indoor air quality, it will also eat away at your grout over time, much like it does on vinyl siding. Mold and mildew are best snuffed out sooner than later.

How to Choose the Best Shower Cleaner for You What is the Best Shower Cleaner for Mold and Mildew? (For big spills or pet accidents on area rugs and high-pile carpets, you’ll still need a true carpet cleaner, like Bissell's Little Green. To test cleaners, we used several different stains (soap scum on the left, sticky grime about to get its initial cleaning swipe on the right). In fact, I tested all nine mop vacs on my rugs and they were all underwhelming. But it’s not a true carpet cleaner and I wasn’t impressed with the rug-cleaning power of either model. Another selling point of the Crosswave is that unlike the other devices, which are marketed as “hard floor cleaners,” the Crosswave’s mop vac function is indicated for area rugs, too. But if you want something that will continuously mop and vacuum, you may find the trigger annoying. If you just want a decent vacuum that can suck up wet and dry messes and also occasionally work as a mop, or if you prefer to do a vacuum-only pass before mopping, this might not be an issue. But in order to make the water flow, you have to keep your finger on a trigger. The big selling point of the Crosswave is versatility: It can be a vacuum cleaner and a mop vac. I tested two models of what is perhaps the most well-known product in this category, the Bissell Crosswave. It was also very loud on my textured kitchen floor and emptying the debris filter seemed more complicated than it should have been. Once operational, it did a great job of cleaning but because the motorhead is so bulky, it wouldn’t fit in the area where my lower cabinets jut out-which is where I needed the edge cleaning the most. I eventually figured out it’s a known issue that only happens out of the box, and I eventually got it going by adding salt and cleaning solution from a different machine. Unfortunately, it took me about 40 minutes to get it working for the first time because the sensor couldn’t recognize that the clean water tank actually had water in it. This was the only mop vac I tested that’s supposed to clean sufficiently with just water (the product description indicates that a cleaning solution is only needed for deep cleaning) and it’s the only one that offers true-edge-to-edge cleaning on both sides of the motorhead. I was very excited to try the Roborock Dyad Cordless Wet Dry Vacuum and not just because this promo video makes it look like a real party starter. Both the mop-vac and the handheld vacuum cleaner have HEPA filtration, though sadly, the hand vac cannot be used to vacuum up wet messes. It comes with an extra HEPA filter and a small bottle of cleaning solution concentrate (only a capful is needed for each cleaning cycle). The Floor One S5 Combo self cleans and charges on a dock that has additional storage for the included cleaning brush and accessories (an additional storage tray is included for the handheld vacuum attachments). The Floor One S5 Combo is Wi-Fi enabled and connects to a companion app that shows cleaning logs, upgrades the firmware, and the best part: turns down or completely mute the voice prompts (there’s a mute button on the back of the vacuum, too). It has voice prompts as well as a full-color, animated LED display to indicate status, mode, battery level, as well as maintenance alerts. That efficiency is due to Tineco’s proprietary iLoop sensor which detects wet and dry messes and adjusts the suction power, roller speed, and water flow accordingly. Though the battery has a shorter run time than many other mop vacs (about 20 minutes, compared to about 30–35 minutes for other models), the Floor One S5 Combo managed to clean the areas of bare floor in my modestly-sized kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, and hallway floors on a single charge. This was also one of only two mop vacs I tested with a roller that goes all the way to the edge of the motorhead, making it possible to clean along baseboards and under cabinets. In its default mop-vac configuration it impressively cleaned my floors in a single pass, it didn’t leave any wet spots, and it was one of the quietest models I tried. The Floor One S5 Combo is a smart, compact, cordless wet-dry vacuum cleaner that converts to a hand vac.
